Introduction to Partnership with Code.org
TSIN serves as the regional partner in Tennessee for Code.org’s Professional Learning Programs. The Code.org professional development program supports efforts to expand equitable access to computer science in K-12 schools through a one-year professional development program for teachers. Code.org has programs for all grade levels. All Code.org professional development opportunities require no prior knowledge.

CS Fundamentals (Grades K-5)
AP CS Principles (Grades 9-12)
There are two choices to prepare to teach AP CS Principles. This option is offered by Code.org and is a 60-hour program that meets in person and virtual July 8-12. and complete after the 4-day in person training with no meetings throughout the school year. Those who complete the summer plus 8 virtual workshops of 90-minutes each scheduled monthly after school through the year will receive credit for part of the work required in the CS Endorsement Pathway to add CS Endorsement to your license.
The CS Principles program does not require a deep prior knowledge of computer science or programming. This workshop builds content knowledge and skills needed to teach an AP or non-AP version of this course. This full workshop has been approved by the CollegeBoard for teacher training that will allow a teacher to get AP-audit status as approved. This program uses Code.org free resources and curriculum that are aligned with AP CollegeBoard’s AP CS A course and emphasizes how to prepare students for success on the AP CS A exam.
This application lives in Code.org’s database. We will notify you of application status within a week of receiving it. Travel scholarships are available and you’ll receive information how to apply with application status email. This is a year-long cohort.

This program is open to all K-12 teachers in Tennessee. Educators should choose the applicable program according to grade band.
Who is CS Fundamentals geared toward?
The CS Fundamentals is built as a beginner step into the world of computational thinking and is geared to K-5 educators.
When do CS Discoveries and CS Principles applications open and close?
Applications for the 2021-22 CS Discoveries cohorts are now closed. Applications typically open mid-winter and close in early spring.
How often do CS Discoveries and CS Principles meet for workshops?
CS Discoveries and Principles cohorts will attend a 5-day workshop in the summer and have 4 quarterly workshops in the academic year.
Is there a cost to participate in Code.org workshops?
Code.org workshops are offered at no cost to participants. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and costs.
